Recent Events:
1. There is a new NHWQ State Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Michael Mitchell, who is attached to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch. For the last few years Michael has been the Queensland Police Service State Coordinator for the Mental Health Intervention Program. A key focus of this program has been to enhance the policing response to people with mental illness when in crisis. In more recent times, Michael has also been working on enhancing the policing response to people with a disability.
2. As you may be aware, in April 2012, Cabinet endorsed the State Government’s statement of objectives for the community ‘Getting Queensland Back on Track’. As part of this statement and the Government’s commitment to deliver safer communities, the Queensland Police Service has been tasked with renewing NHWQ by injecting new life and new direction into community policing. This renewal process will look at initiatives ranging from the use of social media to the possible re-structure of NHWQ to suit all Queenslanders.
3. As part of renewing NHWQ and injecting new life and direction into community policing, the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch has identified that it is important to have an accurate picture of NHWQ groups and this is why we have decided to conduct an audit. The audit process will count the number of all groups/volunteers/people involved in NHWQ. We are requesting your assistance for this task.
